The Queer Heterosexual is a new play by William J. Dunleavy developed through a long-running collaboration between the playwright and me, interrogating the unstable territory between sexuality, gender, queerness and heterosexual identity.
DEVELOPMENT
I began working with Will Dunleavy in summer 2020.

Our collaboration has included I Are (Ish?) and The Queer Heterosexual, two formally exploratory projects concerned with contemporary Irish identity and the categories through which people attempt to explain themselves.

In December 2022, I traveled to Dublin to direct developmental work on both plays.
​
The Queer Heterosexual was developed with support from Pan Pan Theatre Company at its Curved Street offices in Temple Bar.Â

A subsequent developmental reading was directed by me at Vineyard Theatre in New York; that Vineyard credit is preserved in my professional directing résumé.Â

Our parallel project I Are (Ish?) was supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council and Dublin Fringe Festival and developed through Dublin Fringe LAB.
